One month down of newborn life & Mama has her favorite items for her newborn. Unlike Baby’s Newborn Faves, these items are much more practical and based on function, something baby could not care less about. We purchased some of these items ahead of time, and others we bought after trial & error. It seriously has been a “you live and you learn” experience.
Most of these items age well with the baby so we’ll be getting lots of use out of these going forward. Hope this helps you prepare for your little one!
Love, MH

Month 1: Mama Edition
Gerber Kimono Top
These kimono tops were ideal for dressing baby before his umbilical cord fell off. It prevents any unwanted irritation, keeps the cord dry and makes diaper changes easy. *Bonus: comes with built in mittens to keep baby from scratching his face.Extra Long Phone Charger
Not only did we pack one in our hospital bag, but we also use this extra long phone charger cable by the bedside (to go around the bassinet), in our living room (to reach the feeding spot on the sofa), and in the car (because mama needs to back seat charge)!ToteSavvy Diaper Bag Organizer
This item is the answer to organizing the bottomless pit of goodies in your diaper bag. I own both the Mini and Deluxe size - both great for their own reasons. The Mini fits into a wider array of bags: small/large totes, backpacks. It’s the perfect size for a newborn because everything is so small. In case you need more things, the Mini leaves enough space inside of a larger tote for you to pack freely around it. The Deluxe size has come in handy as baby has grown a bit. It holds more things like toys, larger clothes, an extra bottle. If you’re thinking of buying just one, I think the Mini is much more versatile. *Check out ToteSavvy’s Packing Tutorials for some inspiration.Vava Nightlight
A dimmable night light with warm/cool lighting options, it detaches from its charging base to serve as a portable lamp. It’s easy to take around the house in the middle of the night for bottle runs, bathroom runs, baby-changing runs without turning on the room lights.Gerber Burp Clothes
Having cute burp clothes is all fun & games until they get destroyed by baby week one. These plain ones are durable, multi-functional, and priced right. With 10 in a pack, we are always well stocked despite the laundry situation. *Other favorite uses: bath washcloth, spit up protection on play mat, reusable paper towel.Tinybeans Family Photo Sharing App
Free photo app with unlimited storage for sharing daily photos and videos of baby. Can easily add other family members to view & upload content. This was great for us as Jon’s parents are in AZ and have not been able to visit to see baby yet! You can also make photobooks easily through this app or by linking the app to Chatbooks.Booger Cleaning Supplies: NoseFrida Snotsucker Saline Kit (Amazon), Oogiebear (Amazon)
The grossest but funnest thing we get to do as parents is clear out baby’s boogers. The saline solution helps soften any dry boogers before we suck them out & the oogiebear scoop comes in handy for any stubborn boogers that hang around afterwards. It cracks us up every time we see how much comes out of such a tiny nose!Munchkin Mini UV Sterilizer (Amazon)
This mini sterilizer is perfect for paci sterilization at home or on the go. My first trip out of the house with the diaper bag, I realized there was nowhere for me to safely pack a pacifier except for in a ziplock bag. After baby used the paci in the car, the thought of putting a used, spit-covered paci back into the ziplock bag grossed me out… just all the bacteria festering inside. No more ziplocks since we bought this sterilizer!Chicco Bottle Sterilizer (Amazon)
We use this daily to sterilize bottle parts. Love that it has a large compartment and small compartment. We can also run a compact cycle when we’re in a hurry. Great for our family as we don’t run the dishwasher daily or have pots big enough to boil water for 6+ bottles. *Bonus: microwave compatibleUbbi Weighted Wipes Dispenser (Amazon)
The best invention! Your best friend when you are on diaper duty alone and only have one hand to pull out a wipe.Fridababy Humidifier (Amazon)
Whether it’s the AC or the heater, there’s always a reason for dry air during sleep time. The first day we brought Elliot home, it was peak summer heat. We had the AC on all night and forgot to turn on the humidifier - poor baby woke up with the driest cries. Really should’ve had it on day one… whoops!Dry Wipes
A must-have for your diaper station. We’ve found that dry wipes help pick up poop way easier than wet wipes. Also, we use these to dry baby’s bottom after a wet wipe to avoid diaper rash. *Bonus: great mama postpartum essential
